The fine print
Privacy Policy
Last updated September 27, 2026
The short version: we collect only what we need to sell you a cookbook and answer your emails. We use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that doesn't use cookies, to count visits and clicks. We don't use advertising trackers. The only cookies come from Paddle's checkout, which needs them to take payment and prevent fraud. We don't sell your information to anyone.
1. Who we are
Cooking with Naomi Kingbird ("we", "us") runs naomicooking.com and sells the e-book 100+ Forgotten Native American Recipes. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and what choices you have. For questions, write to hello@haroldcooks.com.
2. What we collect
When you buy the Book. Checkout is handled by Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record, under Paddle's privacy policy. You give Paddle your name, email address, billing country or address and payment details. Paddle passes us your name, email address, the country you bought from, what you bought, the price, and the order date. We never receive your full card number.
When you request a refund. Our refund form collects your name, the email you bought with, your Paddle order number if you give it, and your reason. Submissions are stored by our website host, Netlify, so we can review them.
When you email us. We receive your email address, name if you include it, and whatever you choose to write.
When you visit the website. Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time. We use it only to keep the site running and secure. The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser also sends your IP address to Google when a page loads; see Google's privacy policy.
Analytics. We use Umami to understand how the website is used: which pages are visited, which buttons are clicked, whether a checkout was completed, and general information such as country, device type, browser and the site you came from. Umami doesn't use cookies, doesn't store your IP address and doesn't identify you personally.
This website doesn't use advertising pixels or social-media trackers. When you open the checkout, Paddle's checkout script runs on the page and may set cookies it needs to process payment and prevent fraud.
3. How we use it
- to deliver the Book and send your download link and receipt;
- to answer your questions, fix download problems and handle refunds;
- to keep records required for tax and accounting;
- to prevent fraud and misuse, such as unauthorized sharing of the Book;
- to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the website so we can improve it;
- to tell you about a corrected or updated edition of the Book you bought.
We'll only send you marketing emails, such as news about a new book, if you've opted in, and every one will have an unsubscribe link.
If you're in the UK or the European Economic Area, our legal bases are performing our contract with you (delivering what you bought), our legal obligations (tax records), our legitimate interests (running a secure website, preventing fraud, answering you), and your consent (marketing emails).
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with:
- Paddle, our reseller and payment provider, to take payment, handle tax and process refunds;
- Netlify, our website host, which also stores refund requests, and our email provider;
- Umami, which provides our cookie-free visitor statistics;
- professional advisers such as an accountant, where needed;
- authorities, if the law requires it.
Some of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, they use recognized safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
5. How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually up to seven years. We keep emails for as long as needed to help you and then delete them in regular clean-ups. Hosting logs are kept only briefly.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, get a copy, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. California residents have the right to know, delete and correct their information and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or "share" personal information as California law defines those terms.
To use any of these rights, email hello@haroldcooks.com. We'll reply within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, payments are handled by a dedicated payment provider, and we limit who can access order information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect what you share with us.
8. Children
The Book is sold to adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted here.
